Executive Summary

Business Roundtable - 12

  • The 12th Business Roundtable on “Providing broadband multimedia content” of the ACTeN project was a great success and an excellent opportunity for the participants for face-to-face discussions with the key players technological developments of the production, publishing and broadcasting digital content. It was held in Budapest on 9 December 2003 at the annual DAT conference of the Hungarian Association of Content Industry in the Budapest Congress Centre.

  • The Hungarian content industry has great potentials especially in local language-specific and in high innovative areas. The Hungarian government has just recently approved the Strategy on the Hungarian Information Society which has been developed in co-ordination with the Ministry of Informatics and Communication. The overall goals and the objectives of the related programmes are very much in line with the relevant strategic goals and programmes of the European Union. This provides a great opportunity for Hungary to join the Commission’s programme (i.e. IST, eContent, eSafety, IDA, etc.). This also opens new ways to apply for funding the regional-national initiatives. One of the top priorities is the development and expansion of broadband telecommunications. This will also generate the rapid development of multimedia content industry.

  • Content developers and providers were the main focused target group of the BRT. Participants got an inside view of the EU 5th and 6th Framework Programme, and of the relevant Hungarian R&D project results and outcomes. The main goal of organisers was to foster the growth of initiatives in the area of content development in Hungary. The Strategy on the Hungarian Information Society launches several programmes for the related industry, especially for the development and expansion of broadband infrastructure, this was also presented to the participantsof the 12th BRT. The Roundtable attracted all together 30 participants.
